Mechanism of Injury (MOI)

The MOI simply stated what happened to cause or what is causing the problem(s).  There are three types of mechanisms that we are concerned with. Trauma, Medical, and Environmental.

Trauma

Think of trauma as damage to living tissue from energy applied from outside the body.  This energy can be from a fall or from being struck by an object.

Falls.  Patients that have fallen

How far did they fall? How did they land? What did they land on? Did they hit anything else as they fell?

Objects at rest remain at rest till acted upon by an outside force.

Objects in motion remain in motion until acted upon by an outside force.
