Kidney stones are mineral formations that occur in the tubules of the kidneys. These minerals are more akin to jagged crystals than smooth river stones and can cause intense pain when they attempt to pass.
Kidney stones are more prevalent in men.
Patient’s may be able to pass kidney stones in the field, but can just as likely get an obstruction that leads to infection. Infections in the kidneys can be fatal in a very short time.
Kidney stones can present as a UTI. The patient may have kidney pain or pain while urinating. The patient may also complain of nausea and vomiting. There could be blood in the urine and frequent urinating.
Any time the patient has a fever or feels sick.
Plenty of hydration and evacuation to a higher level of care.
